This course is designed for parents, care givers, and therapists of individuals currently receiving treatment through Neurologic Music Therapy Services of Arizona. The course is open to the public for a nominalcharge. Course components will include the following:
WHO: Designed for parents, family members, and other support team members ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: NMTSA’s Executive Director, Suzanne Oliver, MT-BC, NMT, fellow/Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy, is the founder of NMTSA and has been in practice since 1982. While Suzanne directly supervises all of her staff, she continues to maintain her own caseload inclusive of persons with autism and other neurologic disorders. The NMT clinic philosophy, which incorporates both the evidence-based practice of Neurologic Music Therapy and a competency based approach to treatment, evolved from Suzanne’s direct experience with consumers and families over the years as well as through the collaborative efforts of her staff, and has proven to be a successful model of treatment for a variety of individuals. COST: This educational experience is being offered free of charge to families whose children are currently receiving services through NMTSA. The program is open to the public for a cost of $15.00 per participant. (Limited Capacity/Preregistration required) COMPETENCY-BASED COMMUNICATION TRAINING EXPERIENCE This course is designed as a beginning training for parents and other interested persons who would like to begin utilizing facilitation with someone they know.
WHO: Designed for parents, family members, and other support team members ABOUT THE INSTRUCTOR: NMTSA’s Executive Director, Suzanne Oliver, MT-BC, NMT, fellow/Academy of Neurologic Music Therapy, has been utilizing facilitation through typing as a competency-based means of communication with persons in her caseload since 1989. Suzanne was originally trained in Phoenix by staff from the Syracuse Facilitated Communication Institute in 1989, was an active member and co-leader of the FC Support Group in Phoenix, and has provided facilitation trainings to individual parents, educational programs, and groups for several years. Suzanne uses facilitation in her practice as a means of promoting self-responsibility in treatment and allowing for demonstration of competence as well as maximizing the overall potential of the individuals she serves. COST: $40 per person or $100 per support team (up to 4 persons with an additional $30 per person after that) - (Limited Capacity/Preregistration required) Click here to download a printable FC Parent Training Level 1 registration form COMPETENCY-BASED COMMUNICATION GROUPS These groups are designed to provide an opportunity for individuals utilizing facilitated communication to get together, interact, develop their skills, and share insights. The groups will be led by NMTSA music therapists. Sibling groups will provide an opportunity for typers to interact with their siblings and for the siblings to learn to communicate in a new way. WHO: Designed for clients of NMTSA who are currently using facilitated communication, and their siblings. |
